New versions of PivotPoint and TeamTime replace Adobe Flash based charts with HTML5/JavaScript

Date:June 4th, 2019 Author: Tags: , ,
Category: PivotPoint Web Part, SharePoint TeamTime Comments:0 ;

New versions of PivotPoint (v4.1.2) and TeamTime (v4.1) are available that replace Adobe Flash based charts with HTML5/JavaScript charts using the ChartJS library.

PivotPoint

Adobe Flash is set to be discontinued at the end of 2020 and major browsers like Chrome already require permission to enable Flash each time the browser is restarted in an effort to speed up the move away from Flash to alternative technologies.

The JavaScript charts will be used automatically on SharePoint 2013 and above (but you can switch back to Flash if you wish).

Internet Explorer (even IE11) do not support HTML5 when running with SharePoint 2007 and 2010 so they will continue to use Flash on these old versions of SharePoint. If you are using other browsers like Chrome or Firefox with older versions of SharePoint you can override this to force it to use JavaScript charts on these older versions of SharePoint too.

You can upgrade by simply installing over the top – your settings will be saved. (As with all SharePoint installations please do this out of hours)

NOTE – you may need a new license key issuing if you currently have an older major version (e.g. anyting less than v4.x). This is included if you have an active Premium Support and Maintenance agreement in place. If you are unsure please check with us!

New version of SharePoint Reminder – corrects a problem caused by Chrome v37

Category: SharePoint Reminder Comments:0 ;

A new version (1.9.6) of Reminder for SharePoint which enables date based email Alerts  is available.

The main change in this version is to make it compatible with Google Chrome v37. Controversially Google removed a feature (showModalDialog) that has been included in most browsers since 1994 and is still part of the latest HTML5 specification.

We’ve also added

  • Improved compatibility with custom master pages or other controls that use jQuery and the ability stop reminder including jQuery on a page that already has it. (options under the Support tab).
  • Reduced storage requirements for state data to support large lists
  • Configurable Web Part processing timeouts (for large lists)
  • A correction to an error that occurred if you use List and View name with angle brackets in the title.

To upgrade simply download and install the latest trial version – your license key will be picked up during the upgrade and all your settings will be saved.

Warning – Once you’ve upgraded to v1.9.6 or above you can’t rollback to a version older than 1.9.6.

A new version of our PivotPoint web part for SharePoint is available – v 2.4.4

This new version adds options for manually controlling the scale and layout of the axis in charts.

Auto Scale

If you show values on the graph the Auto Scale option will scale large numbers to improve the display. For example 10,500 will be shown as 10.5K and 50,000,000 will be shown as 50M

Axis Maximum & Number of Division Lines

Normally the maximum value on the axis and how many division lines are used is set automatically based on the data you’re charting. However with some settings – particularly small numbers it doesn’t always get it right. For example :-

You can now manually specify these settings, in this example the axis is set from 0 to 10 with 10 division lines giving divisions at every exactly 1 intervals for a much better looking chart.

You can download and upgrade to the latest version without losing any settings.

TeamTime 1.5: 2013 and more

To start with: TeamTime is now compatible with 2013, at last! To upgrade to the latest version, just download and run the new installer: Download

As you may have noticed, TeamTime is the product we can’t help but keep polishing and shining as we hear more from our customers. So here are a few little tweaks to help make TeamTime that little bit nicer.

In order of everyday to technical:

Everyday folks

Just use TeamTime for logging time? The punchcard now shows the time logged so far without refreshing the page. Just click Start and watch it run.

Admin Gurus

You know how the menu shows all the different options to all users? Then does the whole “permissions denied” thing when they try to access them? Well now users will only see the pages they can use.

This means only Managers will see pages like the Team Overview and Analysis (unless you’ve allowed users to see Analysis), and the Settings page will only be shown to you.

There have also been a number of minor performance improvements: For those of you that have hundreds of Projects and Tasks, you’ll notice that this version is considerably faster to load the My Dashboard page.

Designer-people

TeamTime no longer has it’s own custom Master Page, and won’t reset it during upgrades. When you install this version it will switch back to the default Master Page.

In short, this means you can use your own customised/themed Master Pages in TeamTime, so it fits in with the rest of your organisation. Add your own CSS, JavaScript, or logos to make it your own.

Want more?

Tell us! We get all kinds of interesting requests and suggestions from our customers. Once we get enough requests for the same feature, it gets shoved to the top the queue for the next version.

Of course, sometimes we have to say “No, sorry” or “Not quite yet”, or very occasionally “I’m not sure that’s physically possible”, but you’ll always get a good reason at the very least. So drop us a mail: [email protected]

A new version of our Reminder web part for SharePoint has been released (v1.7.16) that allows you to send email alerts if a document is left checked out for a long time.

If you have document libraries that require check out before editing then you’ve undoubtedly been faced with the situation where documents have been left checked out – blocking other users from editing the document.

Reminder allows you to send email alerts after a period of time to ensure checked out documents are not forgotten about.

This example shows how to setup Reminder to send email alerts if something in a document library is left checked out for more than 12 hours.

Sort by Title or Total

The new version of PivotPoint allows you to sort by both the Title and Total rows, either ascending or descending.

More details are in the online manual.

Show Top N

In combination with sorting by the Total you can choose to show the Top N columns or rows.

For example given the following data the vast majority of revenue comes from 2 products (Bottle-o-matic and Can-o-Matic) and we have a ‘Long Tail’ of other products.

We can choose to only display the top 2 columns (products) and optionally group all the other sales into “Other”
